My first wedding ceremony as a newly ordained Minister-Gondolier. It took me years of study to get my license (okay that’s a lie, it took me about ten minutes online at Universal Life Church’s website). But you have to admit the robe makes me look official.

Ever since I was a little boy watching the Love Boat,  (I know-not exactly appropriate viewing for young eyes, but I was the youngest of five, and my mom couldn’t take any more Sesame Street or Mr. Rogers.) for some strange reason, I wanted to act as the minister and perform a weeding ceremony.

The gondola company I work for offers this service as a wedding package, complete with gondola ride, ceremony w/minister, but of course not the marriage license, because only the state can issue that. You knew that right? Well the groom was upset, claiming that the booking agent who sold him the package told him “the license was included…”.  Great way to start of my career as a minister. Did I mention the beautiful bride spoke no English, only Spanish, so she wasn’t aware of any issues/problems with the marriage license…

Without the license, we went ahead with the ceremony, with the understanding that the groom would contact me the next week with the license, so we could make everything official. That was months ago. I’m still waiting… If you happen to know this lady and speak Spanish, you might want to let her know.
